I think I’m ready to fast-forward to 2024 (insert frustrated, crying emoji here)!
I was filled with anticipation and excitement for the new year, but here I am. In bed. With an uninvited guest who we shall call Flu. (I tested negative for COVID.)
I thought it would be a simple hit and run. The average throat tickle, chills, aches, and fever set in quickly and left quickly.
Yet here I am over a week and a half later dealing with an awful nagging cough, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. (Reminder that there’s never too much TMI with me!)
My doctor suggested an antibiotic in case I’m dealing with a secondary infection (such as bronchitis). It’s supposed to be a “kinder, gentler” antibiotic, but I’ve yet to determine whether it IS and I’m just experiencing an awful virus, OR the antibiotic is hindering me from actually feeling better. Or both.
The antibiotic is Doxycycline in case anyone is familiar with it and has any pointers.
And I’m also assuming I’m having a really rough go of it due to my wonderful new pre-existing condition of “I’ve had cancer.”
My white blood cells still haven’t increased to where the average, healthy person’s might be at. I am underweight. I am weak. And my digestive system is already so wrecked.
Oh and let’s not forget the possible hernia I developed yesterday from all this ridiculous and violent coughing. Why don’t they tell you these things in middle school? I’m advocating for a curriculum that includes “What to Expect When You’re Not Expecting to Get Old.”
On a slight tangent, I did weigh myself today and I was a surprising 97 pounds! Which is incredible considering what’s been coming out of my body for the past week! It makes me wonder if I had hit 100 pounds over the holidays . . .
Anyway, all this to say I’m fairly miserable and highly disappointed in 2023 so far.
God WILL get me through. Just as He did in 2021.
And praise to Him that I’m not currently in a hospital! Yet. (That’s the glass is half full of poison side of me.)
I pray you are healthy and remain so this flu season! Please let me know if you’re experiencing anything similar and if you’ve found any relief. The doc indicated this is just what’s going around this year.
Oh, did I ever tell you about that time I had cancer and caught the flu (type B) in 2021 during a time NO ONE else was getting the flu?
